Wing wearing faerie lovers of all ages from as far away as California, Massachusetts, and Europe will converge on the Sheraton Inner Harbor in Baltimore on November 1-3 for FaerieCon 2019, to experience a weekend of story art, music, costumes and the most fantastic shopping experience on the East Coast. For those who want to come in costume, each day of FAERIE CON is themed: Friday is “Good Faeries” Day, Saturday is “Bad Faeries” Day and Sunday is “Family Day” when children are admitted free.
FAERIE CON features a diverse Faerie Marketplace of over 80 vendors filled with faerie books, art, jewelry, faerie fashion, beautiful handcrafts and live music all day. Fans of faerie and fantasy can meet and get books signed by bestselling artists and authors: this year’s guests include best-selling authors, and internationally acclaimed faerie and fantasy artists
During the day, FAERIE CON guests can attend artist panels, presentations and workshops, listen to musical performances, attend a faerie fashion show and costume contest and enjoy the walk around musicians and storytellers that weave throughout the hall. At night, FAERIE CON presents the most anticipated “dance party” events of the weekend: two Faerie Masquerade Balls in the Hunt Valley Inn Ballroom.
Why are faeries so popular? “In these challenging times, people enjoy escaping to a world of fantasy. And faeries are not just for children; it’s a lifestyle that appeals to all ages and has its own unique philosophy and iconography. Families love to come to FAERIE CON: there is something for everyone. Guests enjoy the rare opportunity to meet their favorite artists and authors, shopping for one of a kind arts, crafts, fantastic clothing and jewelry and then dancing to amazing international bands at the Masquerade Balls.
The Modern Master of Faerie, Brian Froud sums it up best: “To deal with faeries is not a retreat into fantasy, but a re-engagement with life. To dress as a faerie, donning wings, is to actively join in the dance, to be connected to creative spirit. Art, dance, friendship, music: all these move easily across the boundaries, transcending language, race, and time. Such activities extend a joyful hand across the threshold. At FAERIE CON, we ring the bells of faerie invitation. The people come. More importantly, the faeries come too.”
