Iris Compiet is an artist and Illustrator living and working in the Netherlands.
She enjoys working on projects ranging from picture books to gallery art. Creating a ‘sense of wonder’ is at the core of her work. Both in commissioned work as in non-commissioned work, storytelling is an essential part.
As an artist she strives to lure in the spectator, to make them feel a connection to the work and open a gateway to their imagination to ignite it even further. Drawing inspiration from European folklore, mythology, fairytales, ghost stories and anything from tombstones, Victorian photography to popular movies and music.
Recently she discovered the Faultlines, a gateway to the world of Faerie and she is currently working on a book called Faeries of the Faultlines about which Brian Froud has this to say: “As someone who has attempted to paint faeries and otherworldly beings for fifty years, I know how difficult it is to be true to the subject matter.
Iris Compiet’s work is an astonishing and masterful revelation of the Faery Realms. She is an artist who, with stunning alacrity reveals the fleeting personalities of the normally unseen.”
